A history of AI with a nod to conscious machines.
If you are looking for a description of how we developed today’s AI over the course of the last 70 odd years, then this is the book for you. The last chapter is indeed devoted to consciousness and whether or not we might create conscious machines. But that is a huge topic in and of itself. It is not clear that one can adequately address it in just 30 or so pages. Still, the reference to the possible connection between consciousness and sociality is helpful. Personally, I found it more helpful than the more exotic explanations of consciousness such as epiphenomenalism or panpsychism. It does need more work though. Watch this space.
