Geopolitics will become geotechnics.
The Economist points out that increasingly countries are thinking about technology from a strategic perspective, just as tech companies do. The question is, how will tech standards unfold globally over the coming years? Countries in the West plus Japan and India, for example, are likely to prefer standards that are democratic rather than autocratic. Surely, the answer is for the West plus Japan and India to cooperate. That will require the US and its interlocutors in the EU, the UK, Japan and India to find common ground and to compromise. Will this grand alliance be a formal treaty or something looser? Under Biden, it will probably start in the latter camp and then everyone can see how it develops.
