An ode to the beauty of mathematics as well as a discussion of AI and creativity.
The author does a good job discussing the creativity of AI in art, music, literature. He then does the same job on his own field, mathematics. One is left in no doubt that algorithms are increasingly capable of beating humans at some of their own games. But he also notes that there are limits to this. Humans must set up the algorithms in the first place. They then do what they are instructed to do but they still lack context. He concludes that for the time being AI will work best as a means of extending human creativity rather than going solo. He also believes that human creativity is tied in with consciousness. But of course we have not yet made a conscious AI.
