AI ready to grasp counterfactual reasoning
Researchers at Spotify have figured out the mathematics behind counterfactual reasoning. They are not the only ones looking beyond statistical pattern recognition algorithms at cause and effect reasoning. Companies such as Meta, Amazon and even ByteDance are doing so as well. The holy grail of AI will be putting such reasoning techniques together with statistical pattern recognition in one AI that is by definition capable of general intelligence. This is one of the two major hurdles in the race towards artificial general intelligence. The other is the instantiation of consciousness to create the sentient robot. But let’s take things step by step. Spotify’s researchers are on to a big thing. Watch this space.
