There are two determinants of the question, whether driverless cars can be built. One is about the technical aspects of such a project – what is the design, can the sensors be adequate in all conditions, how is the coding set out etc. The other is about the money needed to finance the project. As the article points out, revenues from sales of driverless cars are still a long way off in the future. The AI industry has had its downs as well as its ups over the last 60 years, its realists and its dreamers. The article lends the project appropriate perspective, from both sides.
