Democracies are losing ground to autocracies. But technology may elbow both aside in the future.
This book is another wake-up call to people to address the fact that political power continues to slip into the hands of a very few. These very few include those who run large and rapidly growing companies with near-monopolies in their sector. These sectors do not have to be in technology, although often they are. The point is that a small number of sectors are developing increasingly quickly and leaving society and its institutions behind. This is the exponential gap. It is not an insuperable problem today but it is becoming more acute. So, it may be an insuperable problem tomorrow.
