Maybe human language is not as distinctive as previously thought.

Researchers have been looking at huge numbers of clips of chimpanzees gesturing to each other. It turns out that the gestures contain some patterns that are also found in human language. For a start, quick or short gestures are used more frequently. Secondly, longer gestures could be seen as sequences of shorter constituent gestures, which they compare to syllables.
