AI produces great art.

A team drawn from the College of Charleston, Rutgers University and Facebook’s AI laboratory have used a generative adversarial network (GAN) to produce new genres of artwork. Members of the public have subsequently ranked these against works by human painters. The AI’s artwork has in many cases been liked more than the human artwork. GANs are composed of two competing networks that, in a ping-pong relationship, effectively bootstrap the GAN to better and better outcomes. Creativity has hence become no longer a purely human endeavour.
